The Mental Gym of Decisions Training Your aMCC to Choose Destiny

by John Maurice Author of the book “If You Change Your Mind You Can Change Your Life” By John Maurice

“Welcome back, family. This is John Maurice, and today we’re diving deep into something that shapes your entire destiny — decisions. You’ve got a part of your brain, the anterior midcingulate cortex — we call it the aMCC — that acts like your inner referee. Every time life throws you conflict, temptation, or a tough call, this part of your brain decides which side wins.

And here’s the truth: your future is just the sum of your decisions. Nothing more. Nothing less.”

The aMCC and Decisions

The aMCC lives in your brain’s “mental gym.”

Its job? To weigh conflict, cost, and reward.

Think of it as the referee between distraction and discipline, comfort and calling, easy choices and destiny choices.

Some people keep losing in life because their referee keeps siding with distraction. Others rise, because they’ve trained their referee to call the play for discipline.

My Real-Life Example

Right now, I’m making decisions about my business — where to invest money, who to partner with, which opportunities are destiny and which ones are distractions.

On one side: I could say “yes” to every collaboration, every idea, every shiny thing.

On the other side: I know I need to stay focused on my brand, my coaching system, my book, my message.

That’s exactly what the aMCC does — it weighs the conflict. My job is to train it to side with destiny, not delay.

How You Use This Everyday ” Your Inner Coach”

Next time you’re tempted to quit, pause, and ask:
“Is this the distraction speaking… or destiny?”

When you feel torn between scrolling on your phone and working on your dream, remember:
“My aMCC is choosing discipline right now.”

Every time you resist the wrong choice, you’re literally rewiring your brain to make better decisions in the future.

Leadership Takeaway

Great leaders aren’t the smartest or strongest — they are the most decisive.
Your aMCC is the engine of destiny, and if you train it to choose purpose over comfort, you’ll never drift again.

Spanish Word of the Day

Palabra: Decisión (deh-see-SYON) → “decision”

Sentence: Hoy tomo una decisión.
→ Today I make a decision.

Sound it out:

Hoy → “oy” (like boy without the b)

To → “toh”

mo → “moh”

u → “oo” (quick, almost blended into next word)

na → “nah”

de → “deh”

ci → “see”

sión → “syon” (like see-OWN, blended together)

So when you read it slowly:
“Oy TOH-moh oo-NAH deh-see-SYON.”

  Bridge Exercise

Write down one decision you’ve been putting off. Ask: “Which side of the whistle is my aMCC calling — distraction or destiny?”

Say aloud in Spanish: Hoy tomo una decisión. = Today I make a decision.

My Quote to Save

“The difference between existing and destiny is only one decision, powered by your aMCC.”
— John Maurice

Journal This (Today)

What’s one decision I’ve been delaying — and what’s the first step I can take today to move it toward destiny?

Remember

Your future is just the sum of your decisions. You weren’t made to drift. You were made to choose, to move, to build.

Affirmation (Identity Lock-In)

I am decisive. I am clear. I am aligned with destiny.
