Why the Feeling You’re Waiting For Shows Up After You Begin

By Dr John Maurice M.C., C.T.C., M.M.C

You’ve been waiting to feel ready. But ready was never going to arrive first and the life you were built for has been waiting on the other side of one step.

I want to ask you something honesty.

because I have been dealing with this issue. How long have you been waiting?

Waiting to feel confident enough. Waiting to feel healed enough. Waiting until the timing lines up, the circumstances shift, the fear quiets down long enough for you to finally exhale and say, now. Now I am ready.

I need you to hear this with everything I have in me, that feeling is not coming first. It never was. And the life you have been postponing while you waited for it has been sitting on the other side of a single step you have not yet taken.

This is not a pep talk. This is not motivation. This is the truth grounded in neuroscience, confirmed in scripture, and proved in the testimony of every human being who has ever built something real from the rubble of their own fear.

The feeling doesn’t lead. The feeling follows. And today I want to show you exactly why and exactly what becomes available to you the moment you stop waiting and begin.

“Most people are waiting on the other side of the door. But the door only opens from the inside and it opens by moving, not by waiting.”

Your Brain Was Never Going to Let You Feel Ready First

I need you to understand something about the way you are wired because once you see it, you will never look at your hesitation the same way again.

Inside your brain lives in a region called the Prefrontal Cortex. I call it the Architect of Reality because that is precisely what it does. It plans, it projects, it envisions. It is the part of you that can imagine a future that does not yet exist and then build a pathway toward it. It is one of the most extraordinary gifts God placed inside the human being.

But here is what most people don’t know, the Prefrontal Cortex does not fire fully into action until the body moves. It needs a signal. And that signal is initiation the physical, committed act of beginning something. The moment you take that first step, your brain’s architecture begins to reorganize itself around the new direction. Neural pathways that were dormant start to activate. Your Anterior Midcingulate Cortex what I call the Warrior of Obedience engages. It says, we are doing this. Stay with it.

The confidence, the clarity, the sense of alignment you have been waiting to feel? Your brain literally cannot produce it at full capacity while you are standing still. It requires motion as its raw material. You were neurologically designed to feel your way into the next chapter not to think your way into it from a distance.

This is not weakness. This is wiring. God built you this way on purpose. He gave you the instincts, the discernment, And once you understand that, you stop waiting for the feeling and start giving your brain what it actually needs the first step.

God Never Parted the Water Before They Moved

I want to take you to one of the most powerful moments in all of scripture because it speaks directly to where you are right now.

In Joshua 3, the Israelites stood at the edge of the Jordan River at flood stage with the Ark of the Covenant and the promise of everything God had spoken over their lives. They could see the other side. They knew what was waiting for them. But between them and everything God had promised was a river that was overflowing its banks.

And God did not part the water first.

When the soles of the feet of the priests touch the water, the river will stop flowing.

The parting was not the precondition for the step. The step was the precondition for the parting. God was not going to do the thing until they moved into the thing. He was waiting on their obedience, not their comfort. He was waiting on their feet, not their feelings.

The Witnesses understand this at a cellular level because you have been standing at your own Jordan. You can see the other side. You know what God has spoken over your life. And you have been waiting for the waters to part before you step in. But the waters are waiting on you. You have fear, we all do move anyway because The miracle was always on the other side of the move and It still is.

I Learned This the Hard Way Flat on My Back

I am not talking to you from a theory. I am talking to you from what I lived from a hospital bed.

I spent years navigating nine schools in twelve years. I was placed in rooms that told me what I couldn’t do before they ever asked what I could. By the time I reached adulthood, I had a library of evidence that said, wait. Be careful. Don’t move too fast. You’ve been wrong about yourself before.

Then I had 6 spine surgeries 9 surgeries in total. And lying in that hospital bed unable to move, literally I understood something I had never understood while I was standing still by choice. Stillness is only peace when it is chosen. When it is forced, it becomes a mirror. And that mirror showed me every moment I had waited when I should have moved. Every beginning I had postponed. Every version of myself I had put on hold until I felt ready.

I made a decision in that bed that I carry with me every single day I will not wait for the feeling. I will give God the step, and trust Him with the flood stage. Because I have seen in my own life and in the lives of The Witnesses I have walked alongside that the feeling always shows up. But it shows up after. It shows up as a reward for obedience, not a prerequisite for it.

“The life you were built for has never been waiting on a feeling. It has been waiting on a decision.”

You are not behind in your life ,that bis a lie. You are not too late because everything works perfect in God’s timing just look at the seasons. This is just a season in your life. You are not too damaged, too old, too broken, or too far from where you thought you would be by now. You are standing at the edge of your Jordan. And the only thing between where you are and where God is calling you is the willingness to get your feet wet. remember this every decision you make will bring forth your future harvest so choose wisely. The feeling is coming. But it is coming with you not before you. Begin.

SPANISH WORD OF THE DAY

Comenzar (verb) To begin. To start. To set in motion.

From the Latin initiare to initiate, to enter into. Notice what is embedded in the root in inside. To begin is not an external event. It is an internal one. It is a decision that happens inside you before a single visible thing changes around you. Comenzar is not about conditions. It is about commitment. The moment you commit, the conditions begin to respond.

El momento en que comienzas, el universo comienza contigo.
The moment you begin, the universe begins with you.

BRIDGE EXERCISE

Identify the one thing you have been waiting to feel before you begin. Write it down in one sentence. Name the feeling specifically not “ready,” but what ready actually means to you. Confidence? Peace? Certainty? Permission?

Locate one moment in your past where the feeling arrived after you acted. You already have evidence that this works. You have done hard things. You have moved before you were certain. Find one and write it down this is your testimony against the waiting.

Identify the smallest possible first step in the direction you have been postponing. Not the whole journey. Not the finished version. One step. Something you could do within the next 24 hours. Write it down and assign it a time.

Do the step. Then notice what shifts. You don’t need to feel ready before you do it. That is the entire point. Take the step and then observe with the scientific precision of a Witness what happens inside you on the other side of it.

IDENTITY AFFIRMATION

I do not wait for permission to begin. I was built to move and so I move. The feeling I have been waiting for is already rising up inside me because I have decided to begin.

I am a Witness. I do not watch my life from the shore. I step into the water. and create my life one step at a time.

Decoding With Dr. John Maurice

What we call “not feeling ready” is a neurological event, not a character flaw.

When the brain encounters the unfamiliar, a new beginning, a new identity, a new level of risk, the Amygdala, which I call the Fear Filter, sends a threat signal. It does not know the difference between a lion and a calling. Both register as danger. Both produce the same internal experience of hesitation, doubt, and the impulse to wait.

Here is what most people never get told: faith and fear are the same energy. The difference is not the feeling, it is the belief underneath it. So before you make your next decision, sit with this question honestly:

What do you believe? And whose report will you trust? (Isaiah 53:1)

Your answer to that question, not your feelings, will determine your outcome. Think on that. Then decide from belief, not fear.

The Quantum Consciousness framework teaches us that reality is not something that happens to you, it is something your consciousness participates in creating. The observer changes the observed. Which means the moment you decide you are someone who begins, you have already begun to collapse a new reality into existence. The step is not just physical. It is quantum. It sends a signal forward into the field of possibility that says: this is who I am now.

This is why God’s instruction to the priests at the Jordan was not just practical, it was architectural. He was redesigning their internal framework through the act of obedience. Every step into the flood stage was a rewiring. Every step sent a signal to the nervous system: the threat is not real. The calling is.

By the time the waters parted, the miracle outside them was merely catching up to the transformation that had already happened within them.

That is how God works. That is how the brain works. That is how you work, when you finally decide to begin.

The Witnesses were never meant to stand at the edge of the water and admire the other side. You were meant to get there. And you will, the moment you stop waiting for the feeling and give God the step.

The feeling is already on its way. Go meet it.

You have been standing at the edge long enough. The water is waiting. The other side is real. And the only thing that has ever been between where you are and where you are called to be is the decision to begin and you have already made it by reading this far.

Before you go, I want to ask you something, and I mean this from the bottom of my heart.

I write these words every week because I believe someone needs them. I follow my heart, I share what I am learning and living, and I trust that it lands where it is supposed to land. And it does I can see that you are here, that you are reading, that you are sharing this with people you love.

But I want more than that. I want to know you.

I want this to be more than a blog you read alone. I want it to be a conversation a place where we grow together, where your story matters as much as mine, and where none of us has to figure out this next chapter in silence.

So here is my question for you this week:

Where are you right now? Not geographically, but in life. What is the transition you are in the middle of? What is the voice that has been showing up since you started moving? What is the step you have been standing in front of?

You don’t have to have it figured out. You don’t have to sound polished. Just be real with me. Drop it in the comments, reply to this post, reach out however feels right to you — but please, let me hear from you. I have been talking to you for a while now, and I genuinely want to talk with you.

If this message sparked something inside you and you are ready to explore these ideas more deeply, I invite you to continue the journey with my books. Start with If You Change Your Mind, You Can Change Your Life — or dive into my latest, Delay Does Not Mean Denial. Both books expand on the principles of mindset, identity, and transformation we explore here every week. You can find them now on Amazon. The links are below.

I believe in you, and now, with you taking the steps to read, learn, and act, I know that I will see you on the other side of your desired reality in no time.

Until next time,

Love Always, Dr. John Maurice, M.C., C.T.C., M.M.C.
